MASTER PORTRAIT ARTIST

ROBERT H. WAY

Portrait Artist Bob Way has been creating lifelike portraits of people and/or their cherished pets for more than fifty years. In addition to earning numerous awards and accolades for his exquisite work, Bob’s commissioned portraits are collected by an international following, hanging in homes and institutions worldwide.

Whether the pose is formal, informal, or candid, Bob has the ability to capture not only the outward likeness, but also the vitality, spirit, and soul of his subject. Response to his artwork, especially his portraiture, has always been the same – amazement and a deep emotional connection.

Bob is a master of his unique method of painting. He has achieved a level of excellence that is met with honest admiration by his peers.

THE COMMISSION PROCESS

FIRST MEETING

The first meeting usually takes 2-3 hours in my studio or, if desired, the client’s home or office. At this time the sitting (pose, clothing, setting/background) and the size of the painting will be determined with the client. The details of the commission contract will be discussed, signed, and 1/3 of the portrait price will be paid as a deposit. A photography/quick reference sketch session with the portrait subject(s) will then take place or be scheduled for the near future.

Once the photographs are reviewed by me, I will select those most suitable for a portrait painting. From those photos the client may, when desired, assist me in the selection of the final photo(s) to be used as the reference(s) for the portrait.

COMPOSITION PROOF

A detailed pencil sketch will be made and sent to the client for consideration. Once the client approves the composition, another 1/3 of the portrait price will be due. The image will then be transferred to the painting support (canvas, watercolor, or drawing paper). If convenient, the client may view the work once again for a final approval. When approved, I will begin to paint the portrait in my studio.

FINAL APPROVAL MEETING

The completed portrait will be presented to the client in my studio. If it is not possible for the client to make a studio visit, a photograph will be sent for approval. At this time reasonable adjustments to the portrait can be made, and a final sitting in the studio (or in the home/office) may be needed.

DELIVERY

If possible, I prefer to personally deliver the portrait to the client’s home or office. At that time, if requested by the client, I can hang/install the painting and make it ready for presentation or a formal unveiling.

The balance of the portrait price is payable before or upon delivery. When necessary, travel expenses, crating, and shipping costs are the responsibility of the client.

Framing is not included in the price of the portrait, but I am available to assist the client in the selection of a frame prior to delivery and presentation.

If you are considering commissioning a portrait, please contact Bob for more information. Prices start at $4,600.
